Early jazz historian and five time award winner / nominee at the Scottish Jazz Awards; Ali has earned a solid reputation as the quintessential ‘go to’ vocalist for authentic and emotive American popular music/ old time jazz and rootsy blues. Her diligence as a musical storyteller is proven further through her ties to musical royalty-she is related to Dame Nellie Melba.Respectfully channeling the pioneering women of early music such as Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Alberta Hunter, Sophie Tucker and Maxine Sullivan, her feisty interpretations of roots blues and jazz,alongside her original compositions, breathes new life into this highly specialized music-this sees her leading the charge for bringing old school Jazz back to the attention of modern ears.Ali works internationally, is regularly commissioned by the BBC and Jazz Scotland and has been invited to perform at the most revered festivals and swing dance events worldwide from the French quarter Festival to Ascona festival.
