Info from Some Great Reward:

We're throwing our first birthday party ( ...for our 6th Birthday!)

After several years of not quite getting round to it, we're happy to be finally announcing a celebratory evening at the #1 Southside dancehall The Rum Shack! We've lined up a great mix of live bands and DJs sets from some of our favourite selectors for the night, and we'll even throw in a couple of SGR Record Club loyalty stamps with every ticket purchase, plus we're lining up an exclusive collab to have you dripping in SGR garms whilst we're at it.

The Bands:

Conscious Pilot are welcoming into the world their Epoxy Plains EP this month and we're ready to shout about it and celebrate with them!
Founded by Joe Laycock and Jack Sharp as a successor to theatrical punk group Cheap Teeth, the pair birthed the project from their joint love of immersive, beat-driven soundscapes and an exploration of subtle shifts. Featuring members of Catholic Action and Pressure Retreat, the band aims to urge the listener’s ear into progressively choppy waters whilst simultaneously grounding them in firm lyrical soil.

Sea Cucumbers are a 5 piece Glasgow band playing their own eclectic and sometimes spiky brand of guitar pop. Channelling the spirit and energy of influences as diverse as Wire, Gang of Four, Pavement and Radiohead, along with intriguing three part vocal harmonies and the occasional primal howl. The band have been on a long hiatus but are really excited to be getting back onto the gigging circuit once again. This is your chance to catch SGR's very own Olly jammin' on stage!

The DJs:

How Bizarre is a Glasgow Southside-based Radio Buena Vida resident, and vintage rug emporium. Her selections reflect her musical curiosity and Iranian heritage with shoulder shakers and exotic textures from across the Middle East, Southwest Asia, Africa and beyond alongside a deep love for old-school percussion, acid bassline, soulful vocals and Roland drum machine classics. Expect high-energy sounds from the Silk Road “rug belt” weaved into all sorts of disco-not-disco, electro boogie, Italo, and Motor City electronics.

F.aye-i is the DJ moniker of our very own SGR manager Faye! F.aye-i approaches the decks with an openness encouraged by her day job, never worrying that a track is too over played or obvious, or too experimental or unknown. When playing to a dancehall, its rhythmic, hypnotic and psychedelic sounds that are all essentials whether that’s deep spiritual jazz, ecstatic Gospel, house, disco, tropicalia, cumbia, psychedelic soul, afrobeat, hip-hop beats or electronic...

We've one more act to announce, plus the collab hinted at above so grab your tickets whilst you can and come for a boogie to celebrate SGR6!
